When you’re pregnant, taking care of your skin is especially important. Not only are you caring for
yourself, but also for the baby growing inside of you. However, there are some skincare ingredients that should be avoided due to their potential effects on both mother and child.
The following ingredients should generally be avoided during pregnancy: Retinoids (including retinol and isotretinoin), Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) such as glycolic acid or lactic acid, Beta hydroxy acids (BHAs) like salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, parabens and phthalates - these can interfere with hormone levels in the body; Formaldehyde- releasing preservatives; Hydroquinone- a skin bleaching agent; Artificial fragrances found in scented creams; Oxybenzone & Octisalate - chemicals found in sunscreen formulations which can potentially disrupt hormones levels in your body & cause birth defects.
